Charlotte, N.C. - The Lady Lions were back to racing this Saturday at the Sand Shark Invitational, on an unseasonably warm morning in Hardeeville, SC. The race was hosted by USC-Beaufort on a flat and fast course, bringing over 25 other schools to the event.
Freshman Makayla Hewell was the top runner for the Lady Lions, clocking a time of 19:28 for the 5 kilometer course. She was closely followed by Seniors Jazmin Konnick, 19:31, and Lindsey Toole, 19:49 to make up the three Lions under 20 minutes. Coco Ruiz narrowly missed dipping under 20, running 20:04. Gabby Hill rounded out the top five runners who make up the team score crossing the line in 20:44.
"Today our team's focus was excellence," said Coach Hall. "We wanted to do everything we set our mind to with Christ-centered, excellence, whether it was encouragement, competing, warming-up, or cooling down. I'm pleased with our efforts and with the results as a team!" The Lady Lions placed 10th out of 28 teams, many of which are top NAIA programs in the Southeast and will have both individual and team representation at the NAIA National Championships.
