Konnick Leads the Way for Lady Lions at Winthrop

On Saturday, September 19, the women were back in action at Winthrop University for a warm morning of racing.  The ladies wanted to improve on their first competition of the year and show they have what it takes to be a competitive program.

Seniors Coco Ruiz and Jazmin Konnick got out to a strong start, coming through the mile just under 6:20, setting themselves up in the midst of a talented pack of runners.  They were closely followed by Seniors Gabby Hill, Lindsey Toole, and Freshman Makayla Hewell.  "I think we got out stronger and put ourselves in the race much better this week.  Our goal was to get out and keep the top five girls closer this race," said Konnick.  Kiara Hernandez and Heidi Schreiber weren't far behind to round out the top seven runners.  Jazmin crossed the finish line first for Emmanuel in 20:19, placing 10th among Non-Division I runners.  She was followed by Lindsey Toole (11th, 20:39), Makayla Hewell (14th, 20:52.0), Gabby Hill (15th, 20:52.6), and Coco Ruiz (17th, 20:55) to make up the team scorers.
The Lady Lions finished 2nd as a team, behind Queens University, who is also a Division II program in the same region as Emmanuel.  "I think we had a good showing this morning, but we aren't going to be satisfied with where we are" said Coach Hall.  "We have an idea of what we need to work on and we want to continue to improve each race."

The Lady Lions have two weeks to put in solid training before seeing what they can accomplish at the Greater Louisville Classic on October 3rd.
