HARDEEVILLE, S.C.---The Emmanuel College Women's Cross Country team finished 6th out of 21 teams on October 26th at the Asics Sand Shark Cross Country Invitational hosted by The University of South Carolina Beaufort in Hardeeville, SC.
The Lady Lions put on a stellar performance for their final non-conference meet of the season, posting a team average of 19:29.98 and finishing ahead of SSAC rivals Loyola University (19:38.17) and Breneau University (19:49.08).
"There's no way I'd be able to run without the support of my teammates. We push each other to do our absolute best." shared sophomore Jazmin Konnick. "We're a big family running to glorify our Father."
Four of the top 5 Lions ran lifetime personal records on the 5k course. Senior Andrea Langley came in first for the Lions placing 10th overall in a field of 204 runners and setting a new school record with a time of 18:41.75. Sophomore Lindsey Toole placed 24th overall with a time of 19:18.39 followed closely by sophomore Jazmin Konnick who placed 28th with a time of 19:23.61. Sophomore Socorro Ruiz also broke the 20-minute mark, running 19:58.94.
Senior Kim Hibbitt finished the course in 20:07.22 followed by Gabriella Hill (20:24.33) and Emily Smith (21:24.07).
"Today was a good confidence boost for us going into our conference championship meet in two weeks," says Coach Ben Hall.
The Lady Lions travel to Clinton, Mississippi on November 9th to compete in the SSAC Championship hosted by Belhaven University at Choctaw Trails. The top two teams earn a spot in the NAIA National Championships to be held in Lawrence, KS on November 23.
