FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College women's volleyball team defeated conference opponent Barton College 3-0 on Friday night. This win brings the Lions record to 13-11 overall, 9-2 in conference.
In the opening set, the Bulldogs struggled with errors, giving the Lions the upper hand. Junior Jenna Woodruff and Sophomore Mia Cotton combined for 7 kills on only 11 attempts to propel the Lions forward. After building a comfortable nine point lead, EC had no trouble closing out the first set 25-15.
Action continued into the second set with a more composed Barton offense. After 9 lead changes, a kill from Cotton put the Lions at game point. Two consecutive EC errors followed to keep Barton alive, but one final kill from Cotton would capture set two for the Lions, 25-23.
The final set was an intense battle consisting of 17 lead changes. Despite the Lions putting down 6 more kills than their opponent, Barton found themselves with the game point advantage on three separate occasions. The Lions continued to prevent the Bulldog victory, with two much needed kills coming from Sophomore Taylor Roberts. Now leading 30-29, the Lions kept a fast tempo and pressured Barton into dropping the final set after an attack error. The Lions took the final set 31-29.
The Lions continue conference play at home on Tuesday, November 5th at 7pm against Erskine College.
