ANDERSON, S.C. - The Emmanuel College women's volleyball team was defeated by Anderson University 3-0 on Tuesday night. This loss brings the Lions record to 9-9 overall, 5-1 in conference.
Despite outhitting their opponent in the first set, the Lions were narrowly defeated. EC was in position to take set number one after a kill from Jenna Woodruff put them ahead 24-23. The Trojans responded with three consecutive kills to steal the set, 26-24.
The Trojans had a strong start in the second set with a trio of points that sprung from a service ace. The Lions bounced back with a four point run to put them ahead. What came next was a 10 point run from Anderson. AU used their hefty lead to close out the set 25-18.
Anderson continued their dominance in the third set with three back to back blocks from the start. The Trojans shut down the Lion offense and continued to put down 10 points compared to only one from Emmanuel. The Lions had one last opportunity later in the set when they dished out 6 straight points, but Anderson was too far ahead. The Trojans closed out the final set 25-19.
Next up, the Lions will face off against conference opponent Erskine College on Friday, October 18th.
