CENTRAL, S.C. - The Emmanuel College women's volleyball team defeated conference opponent Southern Wesleyan University, 3-0 on Friday night. This win brings the Lions record to 6-8 overall, 2-1 in conference.
After trailing 0-3 at the start of the first set, a kill from Senior Mia McKensey allowed the Lions to side-out and spark a run of their own. The Lions tallied an impressive .462 hitting percentage to take an easy 25-12 first set victory.
Mia McKensey would start off the second set with back to back aces. Despite EC building up a four point buffer, the Warriors would retaliate by putting up 8 points to the Lions 1 to steal the lead. A back and forth battle ensued until SWU began to put the pressure on the Lions with a 20-22 lead. Not to be undone, the Lady Lions responded with 5 straight points, including two more aces from McKensey to secure the second set, 25-22.
A solid start to the third set put the Lions at a 21-13 advantage. Several EC attackers dished out kills while the Lions served up 3 more aces. SWU would fight back to get within 5 points, but the Lions had no trouble closing out the final set 25-19.
Mia McKensey led the Lions with 10 kills and 4 service aces.
Women's volleyball returns home for a match against conference opponent North Greenville tomorrow at 2pm.
