CLEVELAND, TN – The Emmanuel College women's volleyball team played their second game of the day in the Lady Flames Open Invitational against Lee University. The Lady Lions fell to the Lady Flames 3-0.
The opening set began with a back and forth exchange between Lee and Emmanuel, until the Lady Flames scored 6 consecutive points and turned their 11-10 lead into a 17-10 lead. The Lady Lions were unable to fully recover despite Kills from seniors Jessica Gray and Mia McKensey that got them back within four points. Lee went on to win the first set 25-19 after Abby Stroh closed out the set for the Lady Flames with a kill.
The second set saw Lee pull ahead of Emmanuel early, gaining a 10-5 lead that the Lady Lions were unable to come back from once again.
The third and final set of the evening was the closest one of the game with 4 lead changes and a total of 12 times that the score was tied. The game was tied up at 18-18 when Mary Katherine Givhan scored her 11th kill of the night, putting Lee up by one. The Lady Flames then blocked an Emmanuel attack, giving them a two-point advantage. Mia Cotton responded with another kill for the Lady Lions, pulling them back within one, 20-19. After a service error by Emmanuel, Hallie Richardson had a kill to keep them in the game as they trailed 21-20. Unfortunately for Emmanuel, Lee managed to score 3 consecutive points off two kills and a service ace. Taylor Roberts had one more kill for Emmanuel before Lee's Quinne Daoust put down the final kill of the night, completing the Lady Flames victory, 25-21.
The Lady Lions will play their final game of the tournament tomorrow, September 21st, at 12:15 P.M.
