HARROGATE, Tn. - The Lady Lions wrapped up the Lincoln Memorial Volleyball Tournament on Saturday afternoon against Carson-Newman University. Despite battling the Eagles for five sets, the Lions fell short, 2-3.
Carson-Newman came out swinging in the first set, drowning out the Lions 7 kills with their 15. A solid .429 hitting percentage allowed the Eagles an easy path to a first set victory, 25-13.
In set number two, the Lions responded with a reenergized offense. This time it was Emmanuel who put down 15 kills, while ironically holding the Eagles down to just 7.
The match then took another turn as the momentum completely switched back in favor of Carson-Newman who cruised through a 25-12 third set victory.
Like clockwork Emmanuel turned up the heat again in set number 4 and edged out the Eagles 25-20, forcing the match to a fifth set.
In the end, the Lions couldn't find their rhythm and only managed to put down 3 kills in the lopsided fifth set. The Eagles took the victory 15-6.
The Lions will continue action next weekend at the Jaguar Rumble hosted by Augusta University. The two day tournament will take place on September 13th and 14th and see the Lions face Augusta, Georgia College, and Albany State.
