Lions Sweep Mount Olive to Continue Win Streak

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - Women's volleyball continued their win streak on Thursday night with a three set sweep of conference opponent Mount Olive University.

After trailing early in the first set, the Lions turned up the heat in the second half with ten points compared to the Trojans 3. With a final kill from Senior Julie de Blanck, Emmanuel took set number one 25-18.

In set number two the Lions found themselves trailing behind once again. Facing a four point deficit at 16-20, the Lions took advantage of a Trojan attack error with an ace from Emmanuel's Jenna Woodruff. An attack error from the Lions would cost them another point before they retaliated with a four point run, breaking the Trojans set long lead. Junior Jessica Gray would throw down three more kills on their way to a 25-23 victory.

The Lions had their most dominant performance in the third and final set. With a .429 hitting percentage and 17 kills, Emmanuel had doubled the Trojans score by mid set. Trailing 9-20, the Trojans found a glimpse of hope with a four point run before the Lions returned with a four point run of their own. Emmanuel went on to close out the set 25-14.

Junior Jessica Gray led the Lions with 16 kills, one point shy of her season high. Junior Mia McKensey totaled 4 blocks.

The #1 ranked Emmanuel will be challenged by the #2 ranked Barton College next. The Lions take on the Bulldogs in Wilson, NC tomorrow at 5pm.
