Gray's Season High 17 Kills Leads Lions to Another Conference Win

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Lions volleyball team swept Southern Wesleyan University on Friday night in the Shaw Athletic Center with final scores of 25-13, 25-21, 25-12. This brings their conference record to 3-0 and secures their current first place Conference Carolinas ranking.

The Lions put down 50 kills with a staggering .446 hitting percentage, both season highs. Junior Jessica Gray had her biggest night of the season with 17 kills on their way to a quick sweep.

The match opened with a couple errors from the Warriors while the Lions dominated with their highest single set hitting percentage at .609. This combination made for a quick first set at 25-13.

Southern Wesleyan had their best performance in set number two, grabbing an early lead. With Emmanuel trailing at 10-8, Freshman Mia Cotton had a crucial side-out that Freshman Kaitlyn Henderson would capitalize on. At the service line, Henderson went on to serve seven consecutive times, fetching an ace on the way. The Lions never gave up their lead as they cruised to a 25-21 victory.

The final set was another dominant performance for the Lions who went on several runs. The ladies closed out the set with 9 points to the Warriors 1 on way to their 25-12 victory.

With three conference wins under their belt, the Lions will be challenged by the #2 ranked North Greenville University tomorrow afternoon. The home match is set to take place at 2pm.
