FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College women's volleyball team fell to Flagler College on Saturday morning's match. Originally slated to play at a mutual site, the game was moved to Emmanuel after potentially unsafe weather conditions. The Lions fell in three sets.
Emmanuel started strong in set one with a commanding lead. Junior Aysha Avery stepped up to the serving line five consecutive times on their way to a 4-0 lead. The ladies would continue battling until the Saints went on a four point run themselves, pitting Emmanuel at a one-point deficit. An attack error from Flagler would bring the set to a tie once more, but the Saints would rally to a 25-20 victory.
Set two was all Flagler with a staggering .455 hitting percentage compared to Emmanuel's .097. With double the amount of kill as the Lions, Flagler easily took set number two 25-16.
In the third set, the Lions had some favorable moments, including powerful kills from Juniors Mia McKensey and Jessica Gray. Emmanuel maintained the lead most of the set, until the game was tied at 17-17. Nevertheless, the Saints edged out Emmanuel at the trail end of the set and closed out the match with another 25-20 victory.
The ladies will continue action on Friday, September 21st when they take on conference foe Southern Wesleyan. The match will be at home at 7:00pm.
