Central, SC – The Emmanuel lady's volleyball team traveled to South Carolina today to take to conference foe, Southern Wesleyan University. They were unfortunately defeated in three sets.
The Lions came to the court bringing their intensity and with both teams fighting to get the early lead. However, towards the end of the first set, the Warriors finally got that small lead and carried it to the end where they won the first set 25-17. Refusing to be deterred by this first set loss, the Lady Lions stepped up their game and started executing some impressive plays. The second set was a nail biting one, and at the end of the second set, SWU, managed to win the last two points to close the second set, 25-23. Two sets down, the Lions were still on fire, and the loss of the two first sets fueled them to play even better. Once again, the Lions were not making any unforced errors, and were making the Warriors fight for every point. The score got down to 24-24 in the third set with the atmosphere incredibly tense. SWU won the next point, which gave them game point in which they succeeded winning and won the set 26-24.
The Lady Lions fought very hard tonight with Senior, Erica Burham collecting a total of 12 kills and Jessica Gray helping the record by adding her own 12 kills to the stats. These kills would have not have been possible if it wasn't for Stephanie Hardy's 43 assists.
The Lions will take to the court again on Saturday 22nd, at North Greenville University to play conference rival and Clark Atlanta College. First play is scheduled for 1:00PM.
