Franklin Springs, GA - The Emmanuel Women's Volleyball Team faced their biggest challenge thus far this season with three competitive matches against Conference Carolina teams. The week started with a match against Erskine College on Tuesday followed by back to back matches against Belmont Abbey and Pfeiffer on Friday and Saturday.
Tuesday's match started well for the lions as they took on Erskine. Kills from Rachel Tolleson and Abby Bradford helped them gain a quick lead and secure the first set. After losing the first set, Erskine stepped it up and kept a constant lead over the lions the next three sets to take the match. The lions were led by Erica Burnham with 12 kills and Rachel Tolleson with 11 kills. The final score was 25-16, 16-25, 20-25, 23-25.
Friday's match was against conference ranked #2 Belmont Abbey. The first set easily went to the Crusaders as they showed a dominate performance. The Lions however were not discouraged as they battled for the second set. A close game with kills from Erica Burnham allowed Emmanuel to narrowly take the set 26-24. Belmont Abbey was able to take control again the following two sets, taking the victory 25-12, 24-26, 25-14, 25-21. The lions were led by Erica Burnham with 10 kills and Julie de Blanck with 9 kills.
The final match of the week was against Pfeiffer. Emmanuel dominated the first set 25-8. Pfeiffer came back much stronger the next set, taking an early lead, but Emmanuel was able to regain it half way through and easily take the second set as well. The third set easily went to Emmanuel, finishing off Pfeiffer 25-8, 25-16, 25-15. The Lions were led by Abby Bradford with 13 kills and Erica Burnham with 9 kills.
Emmanuel travels to Limestone Friday, September 25 for another conference match at 7:00 PM.
