Cleveland, TN – The Emmanuel College Women's Volleyball Team Starts off Lee Invitational With Win.
The Emmanuel College Women's Volleyball Team hit the road for their first away tournament of the 2015 season. Their destination is the Lee Invitational in Tennessee where they are challenged by Lee University, Union University, Barton College, and Bryan College. Upon arrival the lady lions faced Union University Bulldogs.
The match started with a competitive first set. The lead went back and forth between Emmanuel and Union for most of the match. Once the score was 15-15, a few kills from Erica Burnham and Julie de Blanck, as well as a service ace from Abby Bradford put the lions in the lead and allowed them to close out the first set 25-17. The Bulldogs started off strong in the second set. A combination of Emmanuel errors and Union attacks gave Union a 14-8 lead early in the set. Emmanuel fought back with kills from Erica Burnham and Abby Bradford to even out the score 22-22. Eager to close out the second set, the lions put away a couple balls, taking the second set 25-23.
In an effort to stay alive, the Bulldogs fought hard to take the third set. A few kills from Rachel Tolleson and Julie de Blanck kept the lions in the game, but they weren't able to finish the match, giving the set to the Bulldogs 25-21. The fourth and final set showcased a dominant performance by the lady lions. Starting off with 6 straight kills, Emmanuel took an early lead and retained control the whole set. The lions finished off the Bulldogs 25-17 to take the match. Emmanuel was led by Erica Burnham with 22 kills and Libby Bradford with 39 assists.
The Lee Invitational continues into Saturday as the Lions hope to keep their unbeaten record. Their next match will be against Barton today at 4:00PM.
