GAFFNEY, S.C.—The Emmanuel Women's Volleyball team went 1-1 in Conference Carolinas play this weekend.
The team opened up with a loss to Limestone College in three sets. The Lions held the Saints to only a four point lead (15-19) before the Saints went on a six point run to win the first set 25-19. The Lions were leading the second set 22-17, and allowed the Saints to come back and win the second set 26-24. The third set was tied 22-22 and the Saints were able to pull out the third set as well, winning 25-22.
Danielle Sweet led the Lions offense with five kills, Mercedes Pressley and Rachel Tolleson each added four kills as well. Mercedes Pressley also put down five blocks, Andrea Quintanilla and Danielle Sweet both had four blocks. Becca Graham collected 10 assists, and Sophie Windover was able to pick up 17 digs.
The team came out Saturday and put away Converse College in three sets.
The Valkyries hung with the team until the Lions went on a four-point run to win the first set 25-20. The Lions went on a six point run in the middle of the second set, and the Valkyries could never fully catch up, ending in a 25-20 win for the Lions. The third set ended with a four-point run for the Lions and a 25-18 victory and the match win.
Danielle Sweet and Mercedes Pressley each put down 9 blocks for the Lions. Becca Graham was able to put up 18 assists. Erica Burnham has 10 kills, Danielle Sweet and Rachel Tolleson added 8 and 6 kills, respectively. Sophie Windover collected 20 digs.
The squad returns home this weekend for two Conference Carolinas match-ups against Southern Wesleyan and North Greeneville University.
Friday, October 31st, will be the annual Dig Pink match up and there will also be Bronze Peach points up for grabs. Friday starts at 7 PM and Saturday is set for 2 PM. Come cheer on your Lions!
