MONTGOMERY, Ala.---Several Emmanuel College women's volleyball players earned SSAC volleyball awards Thursday night at the annual SSAC volleyball awards banquet.
Five Lions won awards on the evening highlighted by Megan Bright being named SSAC Newcomer of the Year as well as SSAC First Team All-Conference.
Bright has been a force on the Lions front line averaging a team-leading 3.5 kills per match for a total of 354 kills this season. She had a season-high 23 kills versus Martin Methodist.
Danielle Sweet (second from left) was the next award winner being named both the Champions of Character Award winner as well as a member of the SSAC Second Team All-Conference team. Sweet leads the team in blocks with 95 on the season including 10 blocks versus Southern Wesleyan.
Freshman Cali Jones (fifth from left) was named to the SSAC All-Freshman team as she averaged 2.17 kills per match during the season.
The final two awards went to Rhema Mahan and Andrea Quintanilla as they were again named to the SSAC All-Academic Team. Players must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 in all courses attempted and have at least 24 credit hours complete to be eligible for this award. Both players were 2012 selections to the SSAC All-Academic team.
The Lions are back on the court Friday morning versus Mobile at 10 a.m. as they finish pool play before the knock-out rounds of the SSAC Championships.
