BIRMINGHAM, Al. - This past week the Emmanuel College track and field team traveled to the Samford Open in Birmingham, Alabama.
On the women's side, junior Alisha Wright and freshman Clara Heiss advanced out of the preliminary round to head into the semi-finals. Despite not making it to the finals, Heiss lowered her personal record in the preliminary round to a 9.54, while Alisha broke her personal and school record in the semi-finals with a time of 9.09. In the 60 meter dash both Stephens and Teasley advanced to the semi-finals. Kristen went 7.84 in prelims and finished 7.85 in the semifinals, while Cassandra went 7.99 in the preliminary round but finished 7.95 in the semi-finals.
Thalia Sutherland lowered her personal record to a 1:03.84 in the 400 meter dash, Gosnell lowered her PR to a 2:55.51, Putnam lowered her PR to 7:08,68, Quarles takes a PR in the 3000 with a 11:15.62. The women's 4x400 meter relay made their debut after running a 4:12.79 thanks to Teasley, Wright, Sutherland, and Stephens.
On the men's side Guinn advances to the semi-finals with two new seasons best of a 7.23 and 7.21, while Holiday lowered his personal record of 7.29 in the preliminary round. Veasley takes a PR in the 400, Campbell takes PR in the 800, and Mugisha Bienvenu qualifies for conference in the mile with a 4:34.64 PR.
This marks the end of their regular indoor season as the Lions will now be heading into the programs first Conference Carolina Indoor Track and Field Championships in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
