CLEMSON, S.C. - The Emmanuel College men and women's track & field team concluded competition in the month of December at the Clemson Opener on December 8, 2018.
On the women's side there were seven personal records that were lowered and two school records that were lowered by freshman Kristen Stephens in the 60 meter dash and junior Priscilla Gosnell in the 600 meter run. Kristen Stephens stole the show after she lowered her personal record and beat the program's school record that was broken just a week ago at the JDL College Kick-Off Classic. Stephens ran 7.71 in the preliminary round which ranked her 6th going into the finals. She then finished 5th overall with a time of 7.78
On the men's side there were 13 personal records lowered. Sophomores Malik Jackson and Demetrius Walker finished 6th and 7th out of the preliminary round of the 60 meter hurdles and later finished 5th and 7th in the finals. Sophomore Sulaimane Bangura lowers the programs indoor school record in the 400 meter dash to finish 4th overall. Junior DaMonte' Ward set a school record in the 600 meter run to finish 4th overall. Freshman Mugisha Bienvenu stayed calm for 800 meters in his race and switched gears the last 200 meters to win the 1000 meter run. Finally, freshman Ackeem West advanced to the finals in the men's long jump to finish 3rd overall. The team will pick back up their season on January 12th in Birmingham, Alabama at the UAB Vulcan Invitational.
