The Emmanuel Men and Women's track teams are off to a strong start in their first two competitions, both at Emory University. They came away from the first two meets with several NCCAA National qualifying marks and even some lifetime bests for some.

Samantha Cortese and Quintin Long got it done in the throws, qualifying for both the discus and the shotput. Samantha threw 12.17 meters in the shot and 38.95 in the discus. Quintin threw 12.87 in the shotput and 45.41 meters in the discus. "I was very pleased with both Sam and Quintin, qualifying their first meet out! Samantha is gaining confidence throwing and getting closer to her lifetime bests before knee surgery. Quintin is throwing as well as he ever has and actually threw a lifetime personal best in the discus the past two weeks in a row!" Praised Coach Hall.

On the running side, Lindsey Toole and Jazmin Konnick hit qualifying standards for the ladies. Lindsey qualified in the 10,000 meter run in a time of 42:36.22, and Jazmin, despite very windy conditions, squeezed under the standard in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:24.31.

For the men we had Tucker Hilley and Rashaun Tanner hit the standard in the 10,000 with times of 33:50.42 and 33:47.96 respectively. D'Andre Smalley performed well enough to punch his ticket for nationals in both the 3,000 meter steeplechase (9:55.67) as well as the 5k (15:36.09). Leonel Ayala was another qualifier for the men in the 1500 with a time of 4:05.15. In the men's 400, the Lions had great performances coming out with three national qualifiers! Alton Lewis, Ethan Alexander, and Xavien Yearby were all three below the standard of 51.55 seconds. Xavien ran 50.99, Ethan ran 50.74, and the highlight from that event was Alton in a lifetime personal best time of 49.53 seconds. "It was great for Alton to see the fruit of the hard work he's been putting in. For the start of the season, I'm hopeful for continued improvement for both the men and women. We have several others who are literally within one second of hitting the national standard!" Said Coach Hall.

The EC track team will be back in action April 11th at Southern Wesleyan University for some great conference competition.
