Franklin Springs, Ga. — The EC Women's team was hosting their last home conference match against Belmont Abbey College. The Lady Lions successfully beat the Crusaders 5-2.
After the tough loss that the Lady Lions faced the day before, the women's team was ready to make a difference and bounce back. Thanks to a lot of determination and hard work on every court, the Lady Lions defeated the Crusaders without a lot of difficulties.
#1 doubles composed by Chloe O'Connor and Fantine Botella had a really good beginning of the match as they manage to be up by 3-0 really quick. Their opponents came back on the score using a more aggressive strategy, but it did not bother our duo to close the match with a 6-4 win.
Doubles #2 composed by Marta Rozados and Katharina Kiderlen had a tighter match than their teammates as they kept the score really close. After dropping 2 match point at 5-4, the Crusaders came back to 5-5, but Rozados and Kiderlen finished strong and conclude the match with a 7-5 win.
After the doubles, the Lady Lions were now up 1-0.
Playing #3 singles was the freshman Marta Rozados who had difficulties to find solutions against a solid opponent and dropped her match 6-2 6-0.
#1 singles was played by senior Fantine Botella who used her patience to dominate her opponent. After a lot of aggressive forehands from the baseline, Botella defeated her opponent 6-3 6-2.
Singles #5 was played by freshman Lauren Castillon who had a tight match from the beginning until the end. After winning the first set 6-4, Lauren kept the same game style using a lot her strong backhand to defeat her opponent 6-4 7-5.
Playing #2 singles was the senior Pearllan Cipriano who used her consistency to block all the offensive shots from her opponent which led her to a 6-3 6-3 win.
#4 singles was played by junior Victoria Silva who used a lot of aggressive shots to get the opportunity to go to the net and finish the point with a volley. Thanks to a really solid game style, Silva dominated her opponent with a 6-4 6-1 win.
Singles #6 was played by the senior Katharina Kiderlen who did not manage to find solutions against an opponent that was really active at the net. Kiderlen's offensive game was not enough and dropped her match 6-4 7-6.
The Lady Lions finished the day with a 5-2 win against Belmont Abbey College.
EC's Women's Tennis Team will be back on the road Friday, April 12th to face Limestone College for another conference match.
