Lady Lions Continue Conference Win Streak

Murfreesboro, NC. — The EC Women's team was back on the road after playing Barton College the day before as they were going to Chowan University which they beat 5-2.

After a good win the day before at Barton Collee, the Lady Lions were in a really positive and motivated mindset to defeat the only team that they lost the year before, Chowan University.

#1 doubles composed by Fantine Botella and Chloe O'Connor struggles to impose their game style as they faced aggressive opponents. Botella and O'Connor lost their double 6-3.

Double #2 composed by Pearllan Cipriano and Maria Raich had a tight match as they were also facing aggressive opponents. Thanks to a lot of pouching from Cipriano and offensive play from Raich, the duo won their doubles 6-4.

As the other team did not have enough players, our doubles team #3 composed by Katharina Kiderlen and Marta Rozados did not get the chance to play but still got the doubles point.

After the doubles, the Lady Lions were now up 1-0.

Playing #5 singles was the freshman Lauren Castillon who used a really solid game using her strong backhand to defeat her opponent 6-0 6-0.

#2 singles was played by Pearllan Cipriano who used her counterpunching game style to block her opponent's offensive shots. Cipriano defeated the Hawk 6-3 6-0.

Maria Raich playing #4 singles had a tight first set as she could not really find her game style but still managed to win the first set 6-4. The second set was different as Raich knew what to do and defeated her opponent with the final score 6-4 6-0.

Playing #1 singles was the senior Fantine Botella who had a tough beginning as she could not find her rhythm and lost the first set 6-In the second set Botella was more patient and used her consistency to win the second set 6-3. As the match was already clinched in favor of the Lady Lions, Fantine had to play a super tie break for the third set. Unfortunately, Botella did not manage to conclude the match as she lost the tiebreak 11-9.

#3 singles was played by freshman Marta Rozados who had a good beginning of the match as she won the first set 6-4. In the second set, she had to face a more aggressive opponent who changed her game style which bothered Marta as she lost the second set 6-1. The third set was also a super tiebreaker for Marta. Rozados did not manage to find solutions against her opponent at the end of the match and lost the super tiebreak 10-1.

As Chowan University only had 5 players, the #6 Victoria Silva did not have the chance to play her singles but still got the points.

The Lady Lions finished the day with a 5-2 win against Chowan University.
