Women's Tennis Dominate Barton

Wilson, NC. — This weekend the EC Women's team traveled to Barton College for their sixth Conference match which they won 6-1.

This weekend the Lady Lions were ready to play against a strong team as Barton College is one of the best rivals of the EC women's tennis. The women's team managed to stay calm and really motivated to dominate the dog in almost every court. 

#3 doubles composed of Katharina Kiderlen and Marta Rozados had difficulties to block their opponent's pouches at the net and lost 6-3.

Doubles #1 composed by Chloe O'Connor and Fantine Botella played a really aggressive but at the same time consistent and managed to defeat the Dogs 6-4.

Playing #2 doubles was Maria Raich and Pearllan Cipriano who played a really active game at the net and used their consistency on the baseline to defeat their opponent's 6-4.

After the doubles, the Lady Lions were now up 1-0. 

Playing #4 singles was the junior Maria Raich who played a really solid game as she was using her consistency to get easier shots to attack which led her to a good win by 6-3 6-2.

Fantine Botella who played #1 singles had a really good beginning with a 3-0 lead until her opponent came back until 3-3. Using an offensive game style and a lot of patience, Botella managed to keep her game up and defeated her opponent 6-4 6-4.

#2 singles was played by Pearllan Cipriano who had a tough beginning as she was 5-2 down in the first set. But Cipriano decided to change her game style by coming up to the net which led her to win 5 games in a row to win the first set. After finding solutions at the end of the first set Pearllan knew what to do and closed the match with a 7-5 6-3 win.

Playing #5 singles was the freshman Lauren Castillon who had a lot of difficulties to find solutions against a solid opponent and lost 6-2 6-0.

#3 singles played by the other freshman Marta Rozados decided to go in the distance as she went 3 sets. After losing the first set 6-2, Marta decided to change her game style by being more consistent which gave her the second set 6-4. For the third set, Rozados kept the same strategy and defeated her opponent on the final score 2-6 6-4 6-4.

As the match was already clinched in favor of the Lady Lions, the #6 singles played by Victoria Silva was an 8 games pro-set. Thanks to a lot of aggressive shots and a smart play, Silva defeated her opponent 8-4.

The Lady Lions finished the day with a 6-1 win against Barton College. 

EC's Women's Tennis Team will be back on the Emmanuel College tennis courts next weekend April 5th to host their next conference match against Mount Olive University.
