Central, SC. — On Tuesday, February 26th the Emmanuel College Women's Tennis Team traveled to Southern Wesleyan University for their Conference opener. Without any problems, the Lady Lions dominated the Warriors 7-0.
After a week without playing tennis because of the rain, the Lady Lions were determined to do the best they could to start the conference season on a good note. Without any difficulties on any courts, the Lady Lions made a big entrance in their season opener with an easy win.
Double #3 composed by senior Katharina Kiderlen and freshman Marta Rozados did not give any chances to their opponent to score and won their double 6-0.
Number 1 double composed of seniors Chloe O'Connor and Fantine Botella showed no signs of struggle. Thanks to a lot of aggressive forehands from the baseline and energy at the net, the duo won their double 6-1.
Double #2 composed by senior Pearllan Cipriano and freshman Lauren Castillon also defeated their opponent. Thanks to a lot of aggressive backhands from Castillon and a lot of pouches at the net from Cipriano, the double team won their match 6-2.
After their win in doubles, the Lady Lions were now up 1-0 and were ready to give everything for their singles.
Playing number 5 single was the junior Victoria Silva who did not let her opponent impose her game. Thanks to a lot of consistency, Silva dominated her opponent with a clean score 6-0, 6-1.
Single number 3 was played by freshman Marta Rozados who had to face a solid opponent. After using a lot of aggressive shos, Marta won the first set with a tight score of 7-5. Unfortunately, she could not finish the match as her opponent had to retire because of an injury.
Number 1 single was played by senior Fantine Botella who dominated her opponent during the entire match. Thanks to a lot of patience and aggressive groundstrokes, senior Botella defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-2.
Playing number 4 single was freshman Lauren Castillon who did not give any chances to her opponent. After a lot of aggressive backhands and consistency, Castillon dominated her opponent 6-1, 6-2.
Number 2 single was played by senior Pearllan Cipriano. After winning the first set 6-2, Pearllan's opponent came back stronger but Cipriano managed to close out the match 6-2, 6-4.
Player number 6 Katharina Kiderlen did not have the chance to play her single as the other team did not have enough players to play.
The Lady Lions finished the day with a 7-0 win against Southern Wesleyan University.
EC's Women's Tennis Team will travel to Lawrenceville, Georgia next Thursday, February 28th against Georgia Gwinnett College, the number 1 ranked NAIA school in the nation.
