Athens, GA:: The Emmanuel College Men's & Women's Triathlon Team competed in its first triathlon in school history.
The Early Bird Sprint Triathlon (400 meter pool swim, 20K bike, 5K run) took place on the Campus of the University of Georgia. 10 collegiate teams competed. This event was a qualifier for Collegiate Nationals.
On the Men's side, Ben Eavenson was the top male EC finisher in a time of 1:03.15 (11th overall). Ryan Rosbury finished 20th overall with a time of 1:05.47. Wyatt Nicholson finished 24th (1:07.14) including the 2nd fastest overall swim split (5:47). Hayden Pendergraft 28th (1:10.18). David Rabern 32nd (1:13.17).
On the Women's side, Savannah Gratz was the top female EC finisher in a time of 1:15.30 (6th overall). Laura Gonzalez finished 9th with a time of 1:17.12, including the 2nd fastest overall swim split (6:09). Stephanie Canady 12th overall (1:19.58).
Head Coach Allen Gilchrest commented; "I am so proud of our triathletes, to transition from track and swimming to triathlon in such a short amount of time has been amazing to be a part of. All 8 athletes executed their races well, we are thankful for this opportunity to race and represent Emmanuel in this new arena!"
Next up, the teams will travel to Clemson University in South Carolina, to compete at the 2015 Collegiate National Championships on April 25.
