Wrestling Hosts Georgia Open to Kick Off Season

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College men's wrestling team kicked off their season by hosting the Georgia Open in the Shaw Athletic Center on Saturday.

The Georgia Open consisted of 16 teams and nearly 200 wrestlers. Top performers for the Lions included Mitchell McGhee who captured the 125 pound Consolation Championship with a fall over Life University's Louie Gagliardo.

EC's Kristian Steed became the 174 pound Consolation Champion after defeating unattached Jacob Freeman in overtime.

Narrowly missing out on the 157 pound Consolation Championship was Jacob Catagas who lost by fall to Spartanburg Methodist's Thomas Schock. After losing by major decision in the opening round, Catagas notched three wins to earn a spot in the finals.
