ANDERSON, SC - The Emmanuel College women's golf team finished off their first event of the 2019-2020 season with a final round of 330 to follow their first round 327. Their 36 hole total of 657 was enough to notch a top 5 finish in the 9 team field at Cobb's Glenn Country Club.
The event was won by the host school, the Anderson University Trojans. Anderson improved on their first round score by 3 shots with a 304, totaling 611 for the tournament. Catawba College and Limestone University finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Emmanuel's 657 edged out Erskine College by 5 shots to solidify the Lady Lions 4th place finish. Along with Erskine, Emmanuel placed ahead of several fellow Conference Carolinas teams, including Belmont Abbey, Southern Wesleyan, and Converse College.
Freshman Paulina Herrera led the way for Emmanuel, improving on her first round score by 6 shots en route to a final round 75. Despite starting the back nine with a pair of bogeys, Herrera was able to recover and play her last 7 holes in 1 under par despite the difficult George Cobb layout the ladies faced. Herrera moved up 10 spots on the leaderboard, finishing T5 in her first event as a Lion and earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
Sophomore Allie Cobb shot a second round 82, finishing solo 20th in the tournament and 2nd on the Lion's line up. Caitlynn Reuter finished T21, while Aleah Hylton and Elizabeth Kerezsy wound up 38th and 39th, respectively.
Next up, the men's and women's golf teams both head to Bristol, Tennessee on September 23rd and 24th, to compete in the 2019 King Invitational.
