YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College women's basketball team took on Young Harris on Thursday night. The Lions defeated Young Harris in their last matchup less than a week ago. This time, it was the Mountain Lions who came out on top, defeating Emmanuel 69-66. This loss brings the Lions record to 1-2 overall.
The Lions opened up the first quarter with a diverse offense putting up 17 points from 6 players. Facing a 18-12 deficit, Sophomore Lexie Sengkhammee would score a Lion three-pointer before Junior Breanna Locke followed up with two successful free-throws to put the Lions down by just one point.
As the second half continued, the Lions would put up another 15 points to take the lead before half-time, 32-31.
The momentum began to shift in favor of Young Harris in the second half. The Mountain Lion began to gradually pull away until they found themselves at a 15 point advantage.
With just over six minutes left to play, EC began to find their rhythm. The Lions would put up 13 unanswered points thanks to a strong effort from Sophomore Jazmin Allen. Trailing by only 2 points with 15 seconds left to play, the Lions were forced to foul. Young Harris would further extend their lead with a successful free throw to take the game, 69-66.
Breanna Locke led the Lions with her first double-double of the season, totaling 19 points and 14 rebounds.
Next up, the Lions will host Wesleyan College on Wednesday, November 20th at 5:30pm.
