NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Emmanuel College women's basketball team fell 85-75 to Newberry College on Wednesday night.
The Lions started early with a commanding 9-0 lead behind several successful jump shots, including two from Sophomore Hope Forrester. The Wolves would strike back taking advantage of missed shots and three Lion turnovers to put up eight unanswered points.
The teams continued to exchange points until Newberry's Meg Essex stole the lead for the first time of the night halfway through the second quarter. Senior Lochlain Corliss sunk a three seven minutes later to briefly tie the game up at 31-31. The tie was short lived, however, as Newberry would take it back once more and hold it for the remainder of the night.
Senior Taylor Delasbour led the Lions with 17 points and 6 rebounds. Corliss pitched in 5 assists and 4 steals.
The Lions improved their field goal percentage from their first two games to 39.4%, but still trailed behind their opponent.
The Lions will return to the court for their home opener against Toccoa Falls College on Friday, November 16th at 5:00pm.
