Banner Elk, N.C.- The Emmanuel Women's Basketball Team traveled to take on Lees-McRae. The last time the ladies played against them, the ladies took the victory. That store was no different tonight. The Lady Lions won 52-49. Mikayla Trombley and Timia Reynolds led the ladies in scoring with 14-points each. Elise Coberly led the team in rebounds snagging a total of 14.
Avery Scarbrough started out the first quarter with a layup to put the first points on the board. Mikayla Trombley kept it going with a steal from the Bobcats allowing Timia Reynolds to score her first two points of the game. Timia Reynolds followed through with sinking her first 3-pointer of the game. Elise Coberly scored the next two shots and then Mikayla Trombley was fouled. She made both of her free throws. Mikayla Trombley cleared two more free throws and put up the last two points of the quarter with a jump shot. The Lady Lions were up 19-5.
The Lady Lions played strategic defense to keep the Bobcats from scoring too much. Taylor Delasbour was fouled for the ladies and made one of her shots. Timia Reynolds was next to be fouled and made both of her free throws. Taylor Delasbour rebounded one of her own shots to put up a jump shot. Timia Reynolds was fouled again and made one of her shots. Lochlain Corliss blocked a shot from the Bobcats and snagged the rebound. Timia Reynolds put up a layup to increase the ladies lead 27-14. Mikayla Trombley was fouled and ended the second quarter with her made free throw. The Lady Lions were up 28-16.
The third quarter started out with three free throws from Avery Scarbrough. Mikayla Trombley put up her first 3-pointer of the game. The Bobcats picked up on their defense keeping the ladies from scoring excessively. Mikayla Trombley put up a free throw and a layup to end the third quarter. The Bobcats made a comeback, but the ladies were still up 38-34.
The fourth quarter started out a little slow, but Elise Coberly put up a jump shot to get the scoring started. The Bobcats were able to tie the game up multiple times in the fourth quarter. The Lady Lions finally broke away with a 3-pointer from Timia Reynolds. Avery Scarbrough put up a layup and was fouled. She made her free throw shot. Mikayla Trombley ended the game with a free throw. The ladies fought and kept the lead with a final score of 52-49.
The Lady Lions now hold an overall record of 13-10, with a conference record of 8-7. They will play away on Saturday Feb. 10th against Southern Wesleyan. That game will begin at 2:00 P.M.
