Gaffney, SC- Tonight the Emmanuel Women's Basketball Team went up against Limestone College in their 3rd conference game of the season. The ladies played a tough game and held the lead up until the last few moments. The final score of the game was 59-61. Our top scores of the night were Trombley and Coberly, both scoring 16 points each. Tonight's game was a game of 3-pointers and defense.
The first quarter started out with the Limestone Saints scoring 3 points, but Lochlain Corliss did not let them keep the lead for long when she scored her first 3-pointer of the night to tie the game. Mikayla Trombley came through right after and scored her first two 3-points of the night. The ladies were now leading 9-3. Timia Reynolds and Elise Coberly put up their first 3-pointers of the game tonight to help the ladies regain the lead from Limestone. Elise Coberly made her second 3-pointer of the night to bring the score to 20-15. To end the quarter, Mikayla Trombley added two more points to the board and the quarter would end with the score at 22-15.
The Lady Lions started out the second quarter with great defense and not allowing the Saints to score much. Genesis Jones put up her first 3-pointer of the night and also the first points of the quarter. Elise Coberly made her third 3-pointer of night, which brought the Lady Lions to a 13-point lead. Shots were made by Timia Reynolds, Taylor Delasbour and a 3-pointer by Marina Bendal brought he Ladies to a 15-point lead with the score being 35-20. Elise Coberly ended the third quarter with her fourth 3-pointer of the night bringing the score to 38-26.
The ladies had a nice lead coming into the third quarter, but Mikayla Trombley did not let that stop her and she put up the first two points of the second half. The ladies were up 40-26, when Limestone tried to come back. Lochlain Corliss was fouled by the Saints and made one of her free throws to help increase their lead. The Saints made a slight come back towards the end of the quarter leaving the score at 43-41.
The fourth and final quarter of the game started out with Avery Scarbrough putting two points on the board. Mikayla Trombley fouled the Saints, but recovered from that when he assisted Elise Coberly putting another two points on the board. The Saints came back and tied the game up 47-47. Timia Reynolds put up two points with a jump shot to regain the lead, but the Saints came back and tied the game up again. The Lady Lions were down by four, when Avery Scarbrough got failed not once, but twice. She made all four of her free throws and now the Ladies were only down by 1. Mikayla Trombley was fouled twice as well with 30 seconds left in the game. Trombley made all four of her free throws, which tied the score 59-59. With two seconds left in the game, the Saints came through with a jump shot and the Lady Lions went for a 3-pointer but they were unsuccessful. The final score of the game was 59-61, with a victory for Limestone.
The Lady Lions played a great game tonight against Limestone. The Lady Lions now hold a 2-4 record, with a 1-2 conference record. They will play away against Bob Jones on Tuesday Dec. 6th and that game will begin at 5:00 P.M.
