Due West, SC – The Lady Lions took on Erskine College for another conference match. Coming off a 4 game win streak, the lady's were looking to maintain their position as a top competitor in Conference Carolinas.
It was neck and neck most of the way through the first two quarters with Elise Coberly leading the Lions. With 4 minutes left in the second quarter, another 3 point from Coberly and a jump shot from Avery Scarbrough allowed the Lions to begin pulling away. By half time, Emmanuel was up 33-27.
Coming back from half time, the Lady Lions broadened their lead with a few more jump shots coming from Mikayla Trombley and Avery Scarbrough. Down by eight points, the Flying Fleet sprung into action and scored 12 consecutive points to recover from the deficit and take the lead. Erskine closed out the third quarter now leading 52-48.
In an exciting fourth quarter, the Lions showed heart, fighting back. Erskine stayed ahead for most of the final quarter until the two-minute mark. A big 3 pointer from Addie McNeely put the Lions back in the lead and they didn't look back. A multitude of fouls came from the Flying Fleet in order to force the Lions into free throws, but this only broadened their lead. The Lions won the game 78-68.
Emmanuel was led by Elise Coberly with 28 points and 16 rebounds.
This win puts the Lions at 14-6 overall, and 10-4 conference. Women's basketball travels to Southern Wesleyan on Saturday, Feb. 6th for another conference game. Tip off is set for 2:00 pm.
