BELMONT, NC---The Emmanuel College Women's Basketball team have improved their overall record to 9-4 for the season after a 76-54 victory over conference competitors Belmont Abbey. Mikayla Trombley and Timia Reynolds top scored for the Lions with 16 points each, while also contributing with assists and steals. An impressive first quarter by the Lions put the Crusaders on the back foot early, the Lions lurching to a 20-9 lead at the first break.
The Lions took a few minutes to settle into the game but from that point onwards they were in control and never lost the lead. While their three-point game struggled, the Lions claimed an onslaught of rebounds that continued to make a difference in the match, with the Lions having an extra 15 fast-break points. Elise Coberly once again led the way with 9 rebounds and 11 points, and Avery Scarbrough was again a solid contributor with 6 rebounds and 8 points.
Emmanuel also utilized their bench with McNeely and Mason chipping in for 8 and 6 points respectively.
The Lions are now 5-2 in conference play, claiming 3rd spot of the ladder. The Lions will now prepare for a battle with 4th placed Mt. Olive University at 4pm Wednesday January 13th in North Carolina. After another away game on Saturday 16th January against Lees-McRae, the Lions return home to the Jack and Jane Shaw Athletic Center, where they will take on rivals Southern Wesleyan University at 5:30pm.
