FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA---The Emmanuel College Women's Basketball team has suffered its first loss of the season to an inform Limestone College, going down 47-62 on Saturday afternoon.
The opening minutes were a flurry of 3-pointers from the Saints, racing to a 12-2 lead. Emmanuel was trailing by 10 points after the first quarter, but managed to match the pace of the Saints for the next two quarters, each team scoring 18 points. To Emmanuel's credit they stayed with Limestone for the majority of the match, but an individual scoring effort of 27 points to Limestone's Jasmine Kearse, and a 5 point gain in the final quarter lead Limestone to victory.
Emmanuel had three leading scorers each with 10 points each in McNeely, Coberly and Trombley. Mikayla Trombley's explosive 10 point 3rd quarter bought Emmanuel to within 5 points of the Saints with 2 minutes left in the third quarter, but Limestone rebounded to claim their 8th straight victory this season, their 4th in Conference play. Emmanuel's accuracy at the net is what hurt them most, with the Lions actually recording more shots than the Saints, but a shooting percentage of just 27% was not enough to get them over the line. Emmanuel are now 2-1 in conference play, falling to 5th spot on the Conference Carolina's ladder, and are 5-1 on the season so far.
Emmanuel will take on King University next Thursday at 5:30pm, in search of their third conference win.
