Women’s Basketball Comeback to Claim Home Opener

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga - The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team moved to 3-0 for the season today after a convincing win over Bob Jones University. The win comes on the back of two victories last weekend at the Conference Carolinas Peach Belt Challenge where they defeated Georgia College and Augusta University. Elise Coberley top scored again for the Lions, netting 16 points, while Avery Scarbrough finished with 12. Senior Alesia Fagin had a solid day with 3 steals and 6 points. Emmanuel trailed after both the first and second periods, the half time deficit being 7 points.

However, the game was won with an outstanding third period, where the Lions outshot the Bruins 26-7, carrying that momentum into the final period where they outshot the Bruins again to clinch a 70-53 victory. After a slow first half, Emmanuel increased their field goal percentage from 31% to 71%, and saw 18 points scored from the bench as opposed to just 6 from converse. Inaccuracy for the Bruins in front of goal was costly, as they recorded more field goal, 3 point and free through attempts that the Lions. However high pressure and determination from the Lions turned the game in their favor as they began to take advantage of more and more opportunities as the game wore on.

Emmanuel will face off with Converse College in their first conference game of the season on Tuesday night in Spartanburg South Carolina, tip off slated for 6pm.
