Lady Lions Softball Splits Games at Home Against Brewton Parker

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College Lady Lions Softball team split their most recent games against Brewton Parker.

The home games, which were held on Feb. 24, were split with a 9-1 win for the Lady Lions in the first game and a 6-3 loss in the second game.

The first, second and third innings of the first game were shutouts for both teams. The first two runs came in the bottom of the fourth inning when Cassie Mayfield and Becky Collins scored. Meredith Reece and Isabelle Petty were left on base at the end of the inning.

The fifth and final inning produced the only run from Brewton Parker and seven more runs for Emmanuel and the Lady Lions.

Noelle Petty advanced to second after Mayfield singled to left center. Both players advanced on an error by Brewton Parker's third baseman. After Collins singled, Noelle Petty scored the first run of the inning.

After Brewton Parker made a change in pitcher, Morgan Franklin doubled to left center and Mayfield advanced to score the second run. Alannah Long then doubled down the left field line and Franklin and Collins scored the third and fourth runs.

Reece singled on the next play and advanced Long to third. Long scored the fifth run after Isabelle Petty singled to the left center and advanced on base.

On the next play Alexis Costlow was hit by the pitch and advanced Isabelle Petty to second and Reece to third. After Noelle Petty singled, Isabelle Petty and Reece scored the sixth and seventh runs and Costlow advanced to second.

The inning finished up the game and produced a 9-2 win for the Lady Lions.

The second game against Brewton Parker proved to be a harder one for the Lady Lions with only three runs scored.

The three runs were spread out over the first three innings. The first one came in the bottom of the third after Franklin singled to the right center and Noelle Petty scored.

Isabelle Petty scored the second run in the bottom of the second after she doubled to the left center, Sydney Driver grounded out to shortstop and Riley Clingerman flied out to center field.

The third and final run for the Lady Lions during the second game came in the bottom of the third. Collins singled to left center and then advanced to second and then third from two different errors.

After Kristen Durden walked, Reece singled and Collins scored the run.

The Lions had shutout innings for the rest of the game and allowed six runs from Brewton Parker.

The next games for the Lady Lions were scheduled at Truett-McConnell on Feb. 27, but are listed as being cancelled. The Lady Lions will play again on March 6 at North Greenville University.
