Lady Lions Fall to Lander University

Lady Lions Fall to Lander University

GREENWOOD, SC – On April 7th, 2017 The Emmanuel Lady Lions traveled to Lander University to compete in a double header event.

The Lady Lions came out strong when Sophomore Crystal Busbee singled to center field and was advanced to second when Sophomore Brianna Morgan singled to the infield. Unable to bring the runs in the Lady Lions left both runners on base.

Bottom of the 1st, Lander responded quickly when a single to centerfield and a home run put LU up 2-0.  Next a HBP (hit by pitch), walk, and single loaded the bases. A clutch hit from Lander to centerfield then brought in two more runs—bringing the score 4-0 Lander.

Lander continued their scoring in the bottom of the 3rd when a walk, double and a single brought in another LU run.

Top of the 4th Emmanuel kept fighting when sophomore Brianna Morgan doubled to left field and a SAC bunt from Noelle Petty moved Morgan over to third. Freshman Kristin Durden was then HBP but the Lions were once again unable to string enough together to bring those runners in.

Bottom of the 5th, Lander came out to finish off the game when a few walks and a couple hits brought in two more runs to end the game.

In game two, the Lions started off strong again when freshman Mary Baxter singled to center field but the rally was cut short by the LU defense.

Though both teams would remain scoreless, top of the 3rd, Halle Cheek doubled to left field but was left on base.

Again in the top of the 4th, Morgan once again singled to right field to have an Emmanuel runner but was unable to bring her home.

It wasn't until the bottom of the 6th, Lander came out for a final rally when an error and a double ruled as a home run brought in two runs for LU. Unable to respond, the Lady Lions fell in the top of the 7th to Lander.

The Lady Lions will take on Converse College at 2:00pm and 4:00pm on Saturday April 8th in Spartanburg, SC.
