FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga.---The Emmanuel College softball program has named Kalen Callaway as team MVP for the 2015 season.
The junior outfielder from Oglethorpe County, Ga. posted impressive numbers this season for the Lions in their first year of NCAA D II competition in Conference Carolinas.
"Kalen had a tremendous season. With her speed and power at the plate, she was very dependable in the leadoff position" stated Head Coach Kacey Alexander.
Callaway led the Lions with a .448 batting average pounding out 56 hits in a team-high 125 plate appearances. There were 22 extra-base hits in the 56 total hits including 13 doubles (led the team), 2 triples, and 7 home runs (tied for second on the team). In the field Callaway patrolled the outfield making 54 putouts while posting a .983 fielding percentage. Callaway even pitched for the Lions this season working 3.1 innings in relief for the Lions.
"With these impressive statistics, we look forward to another tremendous season with Kalen," said Alexander. "As she returns for her senior year, we share her goal in surpassing the stats of this season and leading multiple school and conference records during the 2015/2016 season. She has an incredible work ethic and is never satisfied with her performance. Because of that, we have no doubt that she will meet and exceed all of our expectations."
The Lions finished the 2015 regular season in April and will be back on the diamond this fall in year two of NCAA competition.
