TIGERVILLE, SC - The softball lady Lions had an intense battle Tuesday afternoon against conference team, North Greenville University. The Lions were only able to complete one full game due to bad weather in South Carolina.

Emmanuel showed they came out ready to play when the Lions lead off, Kalen Callaway, hit a homerun at her first at bat to give the Lions a head lead 1-0 in the top of the first.

The Lions scored 4 more runs in the top of the 3rd, when Brittany Abbott and Samantha Ely were in scoring position and clean-up hitter, Bethany Campbell hit a base hit to centerfield to score Abbott. After her, coming in clutch was a freshman from Virginia, Khelsea Salyers who hit a shot over the fence to score Ely, Campbell and herself. Making the score 5-0 early in the top of the 3rd inning.

Emmanuel's senior pitcher, Leah Ritchhart, held the Crusaders to no runs until the bottom half of the third inning. When two batters in the top of their lineup got on base by an error and a base hit. The number 6 hitter, Morgan Roach came in handy when she hit a base hit to centerfield, scoring both runs on base. Therefore, going into the top of the 4th, the score was 5-2.

Emmanuel's relief pitcher, Hannah Perry came in to relieve Ritchhart and she shut the Crusaders out in the bottom of the 4th. But unfortunately, the Crusaders found their way on base and pulled out 3 runs after 4 walks and a base hit. Ritchhart then came back in to try to save the game for the Lions. Score was now tied 5-5.

Both teams remained scoreless in the 6th and 7th inning which brought this conference game into extra innings.

In the top of the 8th inning, Ely gets immediately put on second base for the tie breaker. Bethany Campbell does her job and sacrifice bunts Ely over with one out. Salyers hits a bloop to right field, scoring Ely and advancing herself to third base after a bad throw by the Crusaders right fielder. Salyers scores after a deep groundball hit to the second basemen by Jorden Williams. The lions led 7-5, hoping to keep the Crusaders scoreless in the bottom of the 8th.

Crusaders put their number 7 hitter on second base to be in scoring position for these extra innings. Emily Murphy stepped up to the plate and crushed the ball over the fence to score two runs making the game once again tied, 7-7.

Top of the ninth inning, Emmanuel scored 3 runs, when Samantha Ely hit a homerun over the fence, making the score 10-7. Bottom of the 9th, the Crusaders did the same thing back to Emmanuel when a homerun was put in place with two runners on and making the ball game 10-10 with two outs. Coming in clutch, Emily Murphy, with a full count hit a ball over the right field fence for a walk off homerun to end the ballgame 11-10, Crusaders.

The Lions next game is this coming weekend, Saturday 11th at Point University for a 1:00 and 3:00 game. Wish the Lions good luck because Hard work pays off!
