Softball Drop Two Games to Belmont Abbey

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - Softball loses to conference team Belmont Abbey College at home Tuesday night. Emmanuel dropped the opener 16-6 and falling in the second game 5-2.

In game one, both teams got on the score board early both scoring 1 run to complete the first inning. One of the Lions sophmores, Brittany Abbott, led off the inning with a walk and following her was Samantha Ely who drew another walk. In the cleanup spot, Bethany Campbell, had a peppered hit over the third baseman's head to put the runners into scoring position. With bases loaded, Jordan Williams hit a bloop to left field to bring in Abbott for the Lions first run. The Lady Lions were able to get a head start scoring in the bottom of the second making the score 2-1. Runs followed for the Lions in the bottoms of the 4th scoring 3 runs. Unfortunately, the Crusaders had other plans and in the top of the 5th the score was 12-6. Emmanuel was not able to score again and the game ended 16-6.

In game two, the pitcher for Emmanuel, Hannah Perry was able to keep Belmont Abbey off balance only allowing them to have 6 hits going into the 5th inning. The Crusaders had an early start of runs, making it 2-0 by hitting 3 base hits. Belmont Abbey's 2nd batter, Mackenzie Dziendziez, hit a shot over the left-center fence making the score 3-0 Crusaders. Emmanuel got on the board when Kalen Callaway hit a base hit. Following her lead was Brittany Abbott who also got a base hit, putting Callaway in scoring position. Third in the batter's line up was Samantha Ely who hit a double scoring Callaway.

In the top of the 7th, the Crusaders came out with 4 base hits which sent 2 of their runners safe at home. Emmanuel's lead off, Kalen Callaway, did her part keeping the Lions alive by hitting a homerun and bringing in another run for the Lions. Unfortunately they were not able to score again that night and the final score was Crusaders 5, Emmanuel 2.
