FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga.---The Emmanuel College Lady Lion Softball team has been constantly preparing for the kick off of their spring 2014 season.

The Lions finished with a 14-38 record (10-23 in the SSAC) a year ago and advanced to the Southern States Athletic Conference tournament as the No. 5 seeded team from the SSAC East division.

The team this year will be led by a veteran group of seniors as Britney Burton, Brittney Smith,Samantha Rao, Nikki Lowery, Britt Duckworth and Hayley Baird return for the Lions to complete their collegiate careers.

Depth is one thing that the Lady Lions will have this year and the battle for the starting spot at each position continues. Offense will also be key for the team this year; depth not only on the field, but as well through the lineup will show a great advantage to the ladies.

The Lions also added 6 newcomers to the roster to improve their depth in a big way.

The new Lions include Leah Ritchhart (junior), a right-handed pitcher from Orlando, Fla. Mary Catherine Burrell (freshman), a power hitting 1st baseman from Franklin County, Ga. Cassie Hall(freshman), a power-hitting outfielder from Franklin County, Ga. Madison Fewox (freshman), a slapper that will show speed on the base paths from Elbert County, Ga. Brittany Abbott (freshman), a base-hitting, second baseman from Dacula, Ga. Halle Cheek (freshman), a base-hitting catcher from Hart County, Ga..

These newcomers join a veteran class of sophomores, juniors and seniors ready to take Emmanuel softball to new heights in 2014.

Emmanuel will open their season at home on February 15 against North Greenville University at 1:00 p.m.
