SAN ANTONIO, Tx. - The Emmanuel College Clay Target Team traveled to the National Shooting Complex to compete in the ACUI National Championship this past weekend. For the first time in program history, the team was recognized as National Champions for Division III.
It all came down to Saturday, the last day of the competition, when ECCT broke 481/500 targets in American Skeet to win their division by only 15 targets. For the competition, they broke 2353/2600. Team members are Seniors Mark Beardsley and Evan Milford, Sophomores Austin Dyer and Colton Evans, and Freshmen Mitchell Clark, Austin Cosper, Reese Duffell, and Wyatt Hargrove.
Leading the way for the Lions was Colton Evans, who was the top shooter for all 800+ competitors in Sporting Clays (96/100) and Super Sporting (99/100). Evans also took 2nd place on Tuesday in the International Shoot Out in International Skeet.
Colton Evans won the All-American Sporting Clay and Super Sporting trophy with a combined score of 195/200 targets. He also won a $1000 scholarship as part of the prize.
Mitchell Clark took 1st place in B class for American Skeet and 2nd place in B class for American Trap.
Mark Beardsley placed 3rd in the Open Division in International Skeet.
Colton Evans was selected for the NRA All-American 2nd Team.
Mark Beardsley was selected for the NRA All-American Honorable Mention team.
This marks the second national title for the 2018-2019 season. Congratulations to the Clay Target Team and Head Coach John Shealy on their impressive performance!
