Lions Finish 2nd At Conference Carolinas Men's Cross Country Championship

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The Emmanuel College men's cross country team put together an impressive score of just 70 points to take 2nd place at the Conference Carolinas Men's Cross Country Championship. The Lions found themselves behind the reigning conference champions Mount Olive who posted a perfect score of 15 with all five of their runners finishing 1st through 5th.

In the 11 team field, the Lions edged out 3rd place Lees-McRae by 27 points and placed all five of their scorers in the top 25 runners.

Leading the Lions was Freshman Shane Shelafoe who took 7th place overall with a time of 26:08.2. Shelafoe's 5:15.5 average mile earned him the Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year award. Sophomore Mugisha Bienvenu followed behind in 10th place with a time of 26:55.8 earning a spot on the All-Conference Second Team.

Finishing 12th overall and earning a spot on the All-Conference Third Team was Freshman Miguel Lopez with a time of 27:15.9. Freshman Alexander Andrade-Sosa finished 16th overall with a time of 27:44.1. Rounding out the top five scorers for the Lions was Freshman Trent Shackelford in 25th place with a time of 28:06.3.

Narrowly missing out on the scorecard were Freshmen Jaylen Thigpen and Dawson Miller who finished in 26th and 27th respectively. 

Ethan Hargrove earned the Confernce Carolinas Elite 23 Award.

This marks just the second year of Conference Carolinas post season play for the young and promising EC team that is led by Co-Head Coaches Rick and Mary Wilson.

Next up, the Lions will head to the NCAA DII Southeast Regional Championship on Saturday, November 9th. The Wingate hosted event will see top competition from all over the Southeast United States.
