CARY, N.C.- The Emmanuel College men's cross country team traveled to Cary, North Carolina to compete at the Great American Cross Country Festival on Saturday. Despite the immense competition consisting of Duke University and University of Richmond, the men were able to secure a third place finish with a score of 37 points and a team average time of 26:22.
Freshman Shane Shelafoe continued to lead the pack with a 12th place overall finish and personal record time of 25:26.40. Sophomore Mugisha Bienvenu finished 20th with a 25:51.30 personal record, followed behind by redshirt-freshman Alexander Andrade-Sosa in 22nd with a 26:29.50 personal record. Freshman Dawson Miller was next for the Lions in 26th with a 26:53.70 personal record. Freshman Miguel Lopez finished 28th with a 27:10.00 personal record in his season debut. Freshman Trent Shackelford finished 30th with a 27:11.90 personal record, followed by Freshman Jaylen Thigpen who rounded out the Lions in 32nd with a 27:30.40 personal record.
Next up, the men's team will compete again on Friday, October 11th at the Royal XC Challenge in Charlotte, North Carolina.
