FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College men's volleyball team defeated conference opponent University of Mount Olive, 3-2 on Friday night. Prior to their match, Seniors Caleb Bonaventure, Demitrius Maloney, and Alejandro Robles were honored for Senior Night.
In the opening set the Lions struggled offensively, hitting .000 percent and allowing the Trojans the set, 25-22.
The second set saw a much more composed Lion offense. Emmanuel returned with their strongest set of the night delivering 19 kills and closing it out 25-23.
With a split score, the Trojans would jump back in the lead with another narrow 25-23 victory after leading the third set by 7 kills. The Lions would immediately respond with another stellar performance, hitting .429% and dominating set four, 25-16.
The critical fifth set started well for the Lions who opened it up with a three point run. The Trojans would exchange kills for a few points before the Lions began to pull away, leading 9-4. Just as it looked like an easy path for the Lion victory, Emmanuel would slip up with three straight errors followed by a kill from Mount Olive. The Trojans would go on another three point run to take the lead 13-12. Finally, a kill from Senior Demitrius Maloney would tie the set back up at 13-13 before an attack error from the Trojans set up the Lions with match point. Emmanuel did not disappoint with a final big block coming from Freshman Jonathan Camacho and Senior Demitrius Maloney.
Next up, the Lions will take on Barton College tomorrow (March 16th) at home at 2:00pm.
