CHARLESTON, W.V. - The Emmanuel College men's volleyball team split their series with the University of Charleston (W.V.) over the weekend.

On Friday night, the Lions trailed with a .183 hitting percentage while the Golden Eagles nearly doubled the Lions in blocks. Emmanuel stole the third set, but it wasn't enough as Charleston took the match 25-12, 25-21, 18-25, 26-24.

When returning to the court on Saturday, the Lions had more success against their opponent. Despite being out-blocked 22 to 14, Emmanuel improved their hitting percentage from the previous night and led the Golden Eagles offensively. Emmanuel was narrowly defeated in the first set before dropping the second, 21-25. Just when the Golden Eagles were looking to go for the sweep, the Lions retaliated with their best set of the night. With momentum on their side, Emmanuel forced the match to five and claimed the victory, 25-27, 21-25, 26-24, 25-22, 15-11.

Junior Don Thompson had a career high 23 kills.

Next up, the Lions will return home for a conference match against Mount Olive on Friday, March 15th.
