FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College men's volleyball team fell to conference opponent King University, 3-1 on Saturday afternoon. This loss brings the Lions record to 4-6 overall, 1-4 conference.
A couple Tornado errors in the first set allowed the Lions to grab an early lead. Three Lions would each put another kill on the board to stay on top, but that would be the last time they would lead this set as King retaliated with a five point run. A consistent .400% at the net allowed the Tornado to take set #1 25-20.
The Lions improved their hitting percentage in the second set to match King's 14 kills, but more attack errors on the Lions part cost them the second set 25-19.
In a must-win third set, the Lions managed to switch the momentum and control the pace. The lead switched several times throughout the beginning of the set before a four point run allowed Emmanuel to slip away. Junior Don Thompson dropped several heavy hits, propelling the Lions to a 25-20 victory.
Despite returning from a solid performance, the Lions were unable to match King's tempo in the fourth set. Nine attack errors from the Lions combined with King's highest kill set of the game allowed the Tornado to easily capture a 25-14 victory.
Don Thompson led the Lions with 22 kills.
Next up, the Lions will take on Life University on the road, Tuesday, February 5th at 7:00pm.
