Men's Volleyball Drops Home Opener to Coker

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA. - The Emmanuel College Men's Volleyball Team dropped a tough home opener against the visiting Coker Cobra's for Friday night's match.

Set one started well for the Cobra's who took a quick 2 point lead. The Lions returned with a huge ace coming from Manuel Melenciano (#11), his first for the night. The teams battled it out for the remainder of the set until Coker began to break away at 20-20. The Cobras would go on to win set one 25-22.

Set two went the distance for both teams as they found themselves going back and forth the entire match. It wasn't until the Cobra's delivered two final kills to take set two 29-27.

The Lions finally had their break in set three. After overcoming an early 4 point deficit, the Lions went on to take the set 25-23.

Emmanuel carried the momentum over into set four. A big block from Ackeem West and Manuel Melenciano as well as a kill from Aleksa Lakic started the the Lions off 3-0. Emmanuel led the set until about half way through when the Cobra's began to strike back. A combination between the Cobra's offense and a few errors on Emmanuel's part cost the lions the set and the match 25-21.

The Lions were led by Aleksa Lakic (#1) and Manuel Melenciano (#11) both with 13 kills. Ackeem West (#9) tallied 6 blocks.

The Lions will continue action tomorrow at 11:00am when they take on Brewton Parker at home.
