KINGSVILLE, Tx. - Sophomore Sulaimane Bangura of the Emmanuel College track and field team was the first Lion to represent Emmanuel College at the 2019 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championship this past week. This accomplishment comes in Emmanuel's first year of NCAA postseason eligibility.
"I am extremely proud of Sully for all of his accomplishments this year," said Head Coach Chyna Davis. "We fell short of indoor nationals, but I knew he would be back better than even for the outdoor season.
Bangura has been ranked top 10 in the nation the entire outdoor season and despite not being able to advance to the finals, he has ended his sophomore season as a national qualifier.
"We both had a vision for the season and that was to be at outdoor nationals," Coach Davis continued. "He may not have advanced to finals and became an All-American like we planned, but I believe this was a lesson and learning experience that we both needed. This isn't the last time the Lions will make an appearance at the national championships."
