At the JDL Hilton Garden Invitational the Emmanuel College Lions enjoyed a little interaction with some of the best names in running! Olympic Champion and World Record holder in both the indoor heptathlon and outdoor decathlon is pictured above with the Emmanuel distance medley team after their event. Freshman Juan Soto was so glad to meet Ashton, his greatest example and role model in track and field. "Meeting Ashton Eaton was nothing short of an honor! In every Olympics, the winner in the decathlon is given the title 'World's Greatest Athlete' and to see how he started competing in the decathlon his first year of college inspires me to remove all barriers and limits for my debut this outdoor season!"
The team also had an opportunity to meet up with one of the top female hurdlers in the United States Lolo Jones and Olympian Lolo Jones. Tevin Glaze had this to say about meeting Lolo. "Getting the chance to meet an elite professional runner like Lolo Jones was one to definitely remember! I remember as a freshman in high school watching her participate in the 2008 Olympic Games and now to meet her face to face as a senior in college is an experience that I will always cherish and appreciate."
Several members of the team even spent a little time with Matt Centrowitz, World Championship medalist in the 1500 (bronze and silver [2013) and 2012 Olympian in the 1500 (4th place). Centrowitz was the Camel City Mile Champion and set a new meet and facility record, running 4:54.02 for the mile. Assistant Coach Tucker HIlley shared, "Meeting Mathew was such a cool experience. Talking to an athlete who has accomplished so much at the professional level is really inspiring because of the amount of dedication and training that he endures.
