Young Harris, Ga. — The Men's Team was back on the road for a non-conference match against Young Harris College. The EC Lions defeated the Mountain Lions 4-3.
After a busy weekend, the Lions did not have a lot of time to rest as they had to get ready for today's match. Thanks to a lot of effort and focus, the Emmanuel College Men's Tennis Team managed to defeat Young Harris College for the first time.
#3 doubles composed by freshmen Juan Camilo Burgos and Kornel Kimagzewski played a solid game as they were facing strong opponents. Thanks to a lot of aggressive shots from the baseline and a lot of pouching at the net, the duo defeated their opponents 6-4.
Doubles #2 composed of the juniors Jorge Canadas and Lucas Sasaki did not have much trouble on the contrary of their teammates as they dominated their opponent with a quick 6-2.
Playing #1 doubles was Juan Carlos Romero and Enrique Alcacer who had a tough match as the score stayed close the entire match. After a lot of consistency and good returns from the duo, Romero and Alcacer managed to break their opponent's serve and closed the match with a 7-5 win.
The Lions were now up by 1-0 after the doubles.
Playing #6 singles was the senior Enrique Alcacer who took care of his business really fast as he did not let a chance to his opponent to impose his game. Alcacer defeated his opponent 6-1 6-.
#1 singles played by Juan Carlos Romero did not have the same scenario as singles #6. On the opposite, Romero struggled a lot to find his rhythm against a solid opponent and lost 6-2 6-0.
Singles #4 was played by the freshman Kornel Kimagzewski who played a solid game style to dominate his opponent. Kimagzewski stayed solid in the points using a lot his offensive game to defeat his opponent 6-3 6-1.
Playing #2 singles was the other freshman Thembokwakhe Makhanya who had some difficulties to find solutions against a strong opponent. Makhanya's consistency was not enough today as his opponent dominated him 6-3 6-3.
#3 singles was played by the junior Lucas Sasaki who had a tough and long match as he decided to go with the distance by playing three sets. After winning the first set 6-0, Lucas saw his opponent coming back stronger and was not ready for it as he lost the second set 6-4. In the third set, Sasaki was ready to use a different strategy and started to be more aggressive and finally closed the match win a 6-0 4-6 6-3 win.
Singles #5 played by Jorge Canadas who had a very difficult match as it was tight for the entire match. Thanks to a lot of consistency, Canadas managed to win the first set 7-4 in the tie-breaker. The second set was also really tight, but Jorge did not manage to keep his serve as he lost 7-5. The third set was a tie-breaker as the match was already clinched in favor of the Lions. Sadly, Canadas did not manage to close the match and lost 10-8 in the super tie-break.
The Lions finished the day with a 4-3 win against Young Harris College.
EC Tennis Team will be back on the road Friday, April 12th to face Limestone College for their last conference match.
